NCVO champions the voluntary sector and volunteering. This link provides access to advice and support on a wide range of topics and in a variety of formats from practical how-to guides to video training courses or bespoke advice.

A wide range of guidance and advice by downloading information sheets and model documents designed to support all aspects of community or voluntary work.

Charity Commission Setting up a charity

If you think you would like to register your organisation as a charity, then there is plenty of useful guidance on the Charity Commissions pages.

Community Matters Setting up a community organisation

If you would like to know more about setting up a community group or community association, then Community Matters has a lot of useful guidance. Particular focus on groups working within a defined local area (village, estate, etc).

Get Legal Legal advice

If you would like to check which legal form would be the best for your new organisation – this web-site will take you through the different options with links to model governing documents that relate to each legal form. You will need to register with the web-site to be able to access the "Decision Tool" function.

Grant Funding Sources

Action Hampshire Looking for grant funding

Action Hampshire can provide temporary access to the online Grantfinder database if your organisation is a member (membership is free).

Action Hampshire's Community Buildings Services also provides a regularly updated funding sources factsheet.

Basingstoke Voluntary Action Funding & grants

Regularly updated information on grant funding sources, many local to Basingstoke and Deane and Hampshire.

Directory of Social Change Directory of Social Change

Hosts a number of searchable funding databases (there is an annual charge) and publishes a whole range of fundraising publications.

Funding Central Funding Central

A free to access searchable database of funding sources (including government funding and tender/contract opportunities). You will need to register to use this site – and you will receive alerts when application deadlines are approaching.

Big Lottery Fund Big Lottery Fund

One of the main grant providers in the UK. Main open grant programmes are Awards for All and Reaching Communities and other special grant programmes are also available.

Hampshire and IOW Community Foundation Hampshire and IOW Community Foundation

1-year grants for smaller voluntary and community organisations operating and based in Hampshire, Southampton, Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight – based around thematic priorities. Invitations to apply run throughout the year so do check the site regularly or sign up for e-mail alerts.

The Foundation would actively encourage you to contact your local CVS for advice on guidance on completing your application (online). Hampshire CVSs can also act as referees for your application if required.

Hampshire County Council Grant opportunities from Hampshire County Council

A link to all the grant opportunities available via the County Council eg County Councillors, Adult and Children's Services, Community Transport, Countryside Access etc. Application process is online.
